Guinness QR Code – pure genius
By Jonathan O'Connor on Saturday, May 19, 2012
Brands are coming up with ever-innovative ways to use QR Codes. At first Tesco created a virtual subway store in South Korea, then footballers from Bromley FC began shaving codes onto their heads. Now Guinness has come up with a genius idea.
The drinks giant commissioned advertising agency BBDO to create a pint glass that can only be read once filled with Guinness. Once you’ve scanned the Guinness QR Cup it “tweets about your pint, updates your Facebook status, checks you in via Foursquare, downloads coupons and promotions, invites your friends to join you, and even launches exclusive Guinness content.”
This clever little concept has created lots of media interest, featuring in Brand Republic, Ad Week, The Grocer and many more.
