Batman-Oreo collaboration reaches new heights in build-up to movie release

Gotham’s crime-fighting billionaire has a new sidekick, and they’re taking their partnership across the UK in the form of a giant billboard.

The creative OOH, designed by Digitas, will be popping up in major cities such as London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester until mid-February- leaving just enough suspense time before the film’s official UK release date, March 4th 2022. The iconic Batarang is seen slicing and dicing through an Oreo cookie, all portrayed against a beautiful black background, keeping with the colour themes of both. As Rafael Espesani, senior brand manager at Oreo, said: “It is instantly recognizable and helps us drive cultural relevance and excitement, while making the Oreo cookie look delicious and cool.”

The billboard is the latest product of the unexpected collaboration between the Batman and Oreo partnership. Previously, fans were treated to limited edition Oreo- Batman cookies, accompanied by an excellently shot video which saw Gotham City recreated with Oreos, and the Batman’s iconic figure cut into Oreo cookies. The billboard was also produced with the assistance of media agency Carat UK and production company MediaCo, as well as Elvis and Tin Man PR.

Lazaros Nikiforidis, executive creative director at Digitas UK, added that “Batman is only half the superhero without his many gadgets, all housed in his utility belt, and now there’s a tasty new addition he can have fun with in Oreo cookies”. I wonder whether March 3rd may just see the night sky illuminated by a single spotlight in the shape of an Oreo being cut by a Batarang…
