By on Monday, May 20, 2019

Comic strip Roy of the Rovers is getting a new edition – Roy’s sister Rocky. Rocky Race is the comic’s female lead who will be following England’s Lionesses in the World Cup, which starts on the 7th June. Rocky is the first female lead the comic strip has had in their 65-year history and the first time it has featured women’s football.

The Times reported Rocky as Roy’s spirited younger sister who loves football. Readers will be able to follow the football adventures of both Rocky, Roy and their coach Ffion.

The comic is designed to increase interest in the Woman’s world cup and is written by popular children’s author, Tom Palmer. The joint project was developed by the National Literacy Trust, the Football Association and Rebellion Publishing.

Subsequent chapters will be published before 08:00am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the tournament and will only be published online on the National Literacy Trust’s website. The next feature will be available Monday 10th June.
