The Big Bang Fair serves up a 3D printed meal

The Big Bang Fair pulled off an amazing stunt in its efforts to encourage young people to pursue STEM careers when they created a 3D printed school meal for St Helen’s Primary School.

The event came alongside a poll of 1,000 11-to-16-year olds suggesting that 71 per cent of pupils would like better access to new technology such as 3D printers in their schools. The survey also found that one in five believe that all homes will have 3D printers within the next three or four years and two-thirds believe they will be the norm within a decade.

The children got to witness the food being printed in front of them with the varied menu consisting of: fish and chips (including hexagonal beans), cod and potato, cauliflower cogs, a hummus and guacamole ‘lizard’ featuring avocado scales, spiral squash, 3D broccoli stars and fruit and yoghurt ‘pi’.
