Greenpeace activists paint Berlin’s streets yellow

The roads of Berlin surrounding the city’s famous victory column have been covered in approximately 3,500 litres of yellow paint by Greenpeace activists.
Intended to resemble the sun and champion the power of solar energy; the stunt was enacted to put pressure on the German government to decrease the amount of coal power plants.
With the aim to one day, finally cut out the use of coal completely.
Christoph Von Lieven of Greenpeace said; “The drawn-out phase out of coal is ruining Germany’s climate record and is halting the modernisation of our energy system to one fuelled by solar and wind power.”
This stunt certainly didn’t go un-noticed as there was a lot of controversy from the local people.
Those who were driving or cycling around the roundabout were made to drive especially slowly as there was a risk of skid hazards leading to further conversations.
Cleaning up the roads proved rather difficult as putting water onto the tarmac only made it more slippery.
Greenpeace has since issued a statement assuring people that the paint used was washable and environmentally friendly.
