Walkers threaten to ditch three of its most loved flavours!

By on Monday, August 14, 2017

In the last week Walkers has released its latest PR stunt claiming it is considering discontinuing three popular flavours – Salt and Vinegar, Prawn Cocktail and Smoky Bacon.

Putting its fate in the hands of the British public, the company is asking people to ‘choose me or lose me?’ by voting for their favourite flavour in the new campaign. Each ‘British’ original flavour is being challenged by a new international inspired flavour. American Bacon and Cheddar challenges the popular Smoky Bacon, Spanish-inspired Paprika going against Prawn Cocktail and the classic Salt and Vinegar versus lime and black pepper from Australia.

The ‘crisp referendum’, starting August 14th and closing October 22nd, has caused quite a stir with the public who are outraged some of their favourite flavours could be scrapped. I like the stunt and think it works well, getting a reaction off the public, however it is similar to stunts done before by Walkers such as the ‘Do us a flavour campaign’ in 2014.

With the hashtag #chooseorlose, the new campaign has been widely discussed on social media by the British public, who are able to vote their choices via the Walkers website.
