Star-studded ad #TheChokeables shows public how to save choking babies

British celebrities David Walliams, David Mitchell, Johnny Vegas, and Sir John Hurt have leant their voices to #TheChokeables, an animated ad showing how to save a choking baby.

The campaign by first aid charity St John Ambulance comes as new research shows that four-fifths of parents (79%) do not know the correct technique despite more than half (58%) saying that choking is a major fear for them and 40% that they have witnessed it.

The ad has received some good coverage, on the likes of ITV News, the Telegraph and The Drum. According to PR assistant Freya Carr, it’s ‘reached’ more than a million people in its first 24 hours. The YouTube clip has been viewed nearly 200,000 times.

In its intention to show us something that could quite genuinely save a life, #TheChokeables reminds me of the British Heart Foundation’s ‘Hands Only’ effort from 2011, in which Vinnie Jones showed us how to give CPR to the tune of the Beegees’ Stayin’ Alive:
