Pirates strung up for first time in 200 years in Thames beach PR stunt

To promote the launch of pirate drama Black Sails onto Amazon Prime Instant Video today, ‘pirates’ were strung up in gibbets on a beach of the River Thames for the first time in 200 years.

According to the release, Execution Dock in Wapping is the site of the most famous pirate hangings on British record. The last pirates to be hung there were two men named George Davis and William Watts, executed at the end of 1830.
