MTV and Lucozade launched a Social Media Campaign #YesPimpMySummerBall which encourages University students to Tweet and Retweet the hashtag #YesPimpMySummerBall in an effort to win £50,000 towards their End of year Summer Ball.
The campaign, which is driven by Twitter users, has already seen a large number of tweets from several Universities, Including Bournemouth, Kent and Reading, and is set to continue until April 7th 2014. Tweeters are also offered the chance to win DJ Acts and gadgets as part of the competition. The official site ( http://www.mtv.co.uk/club-mtv ) reads
“Win a pimped summer ball for your uni with Lucozade Energy and Club MTV. We’re giving away iPad Minis and awesome Lucozade Energy goodie bags too. To enter, tweet #YESPimpMySummerBall followed by the name of your uni then check out the leader board”
The competition not only allows users to submit entries and actively take part in a consumer campaign, but it also provides both MTV UK and Lucozade with a lot of free publicity, aided by a heightened social presence. It will be interested to see the social stats before and after the campaign, as the campaign has already had over half a million mentions on Social Media.
The campaign, however, has also seen tweeters using automated twitter accounts, bots and a variety of other Twitter themed application which automate, Retweet and favorite tweets constantly. Several Universities have already received warnings regarding use of such apps with organisers failing to control “pop-up” accounts. The timescales of this campaign have also come under questions, with some users debating whether it’s worth doing over a Month long period.
