6,000 men who sacrificed themselves during the First World War are being honoured – in the streets where they once lived.

Portsmouth Council have put up posters across the City to say thank you to the soldiers that lived on those streets and died serving their country in the first World War.

According to the local paper ‘Hundreds of plaques with the names of the sailors and soldiers killed in the war will be rolling out across 846 roads across Portsmouth next week.’

@steakokidney commented on Twitter ‘It’s fascinating, sad and scary. But hats off to them; it brings it home how many died.”
