“Cheeky Nando’s anyone?”

By on Wednesday, May 13, 2015

A couple of days ago, a thread was started by an American, asking, “what does ‘cheeky Nandos’ mean?”

The American admitted that he knew Nando’s was a chicken chain restaurant, but was confused by the phrasing ‘cheeky’, and what on earth did it mean?

Result?  It broke the Internet.

In the UK, a ‘cheeky Nando’s’ just rolls off the tongue.  But really, we’re talking about people in the ’18-30′ age category.  Lad culture – largely emulated by TV programmes like The Inbetweeners – has become the social norm.  Nando’s has now joined the ranks, with Twitter, Facebook and Vine bursting at the seams with lad banter.

But none of these memes, videos or posts have originated by Nando’s, it’s all come from fans of the chicken chain, and other bystanders.  It has unwittingly coined itself an unofficial new name and fan base without even having tried.

Nando’s, I salute you.
